At Classic And Retro Autos Limited, we're driven by a lifelong passion for classic and retro vehicles. Based in County Durham, our family-run business is dedicated to preserving the timeless charm of vintage cars, from iconic British sports cars to rare international gems.
The roots of the business trace back to a childhood love of MG Midgets and Mk1 Escorts, the kind of cars that spark lifelong obsessions. Over the years, one car after another was bought, restored, and brought back to life, including a much-loved Cavalier that marked a turning point in the journey.
After years spent working in other industries without true fulfilment, the idea of creating a small, dedicated classic car garage became more than just a dream. In August 2015, Classic And Retro Autos Limited was launched from a modest unit with a single car ramp in Tanfield Industrial Estate. Initially a sideline, the business quickly gained momentum through the buying, selling, and restoring of beloved vehicles.
By 2016, the operation had outgrown its original space, prompting a move to a larger, purpose-built site. Today, the premises at Units 4 and 5, Langley Park Industrial Estate North, Witton Gilbert, include a fully equipped mechanical workshop and a dedicated body fabrication shop. While the early days included a mix of car sales and restorations, demand has naturally shifted the focus towards specialist restoration work where craftsmanship, care, and attention to detail define every job. We still sell classic cars, some of them on their owners' behalf.
Mechanical work starts at £65 an hour, welding and fabrication at £80 an hour, and TIG aluminium welding and fabrication at £110 an hour, all plus VAT. Whether it's a full rebuild or precise fabrication, the same passion that inspired this journey continues to guide every project we undertake.
